What the Heck is with October 3rd?

All these October 3rd memes, jokes and references but you do not have any idea as to why people are posting about it? Well, look no further because as a pop culture fan and an internet nerd, I'd cultur-ize you as to what makes October 3rd one of the most important dates in pop culture and internet history.

But before the revelation, let us first learn about October 3rd in World History. In Korea, October 3rd is known as Gaecheonjeol or in layman's terms, National Foundation Day. Accoring to Wikipedia, this holiday celebrates the legendary formation of the first Korean state of Gojoseon in 2333 BC. This date has traditionally been regarded as the date for the founding of the Korean people.
In Hollywood, October 3rd is also the birthday, or should I say nameday of actress Lena Headey who plays Queen Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones.

Well, much have been said but the true reason why the people of the internet are going crazy and making a huge fuss about this date is mainly due to two reasons. Whether you're a movie or an animé fan, October 3rd is one of the dates that bears significance to your fandom experience.

In the Movie, Mean Girls, October 3rd is the day Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett), Cady's (Lindsay Lohan) Crush asked her what day it was. And she remembered specifically what day it was and what he said on that day. Coincidentally, October 3rd usually falls on a Wednesday. And in true Mean Girls fashion, on Wednesdays, you should wear pink. This was base on one of the movie's most famous line (apparently, this movie has a lot of quotable and meme-able phrases and dialogues. Thank you, Tina Fey) from dumb blonde Karen Smith (Amanda Seyfried), "On Wednesdays we wear pink", until such time, fans all over the world have designated every 3rd of October as Mean Girls Day to celebrate this awesome movie. Like seriously, you have to watch it because it gets funnier and funnier every time you watch it.

On the other hand, in the world of animé, October 3rd holds a very significant value to Full Metal Alchemist. To those who do not know what FMA is, it is a manga-turned-animé and later remade into an animé version more faithful to the manga, and ultimately a live-action movie by Sony, that tells a story of two brothers who are in a quest to bring the body back of one of the brothers named Alphonse Elric or Al for short, and the main protagonist, Edward Elric or Ed for short's (no pun intended) arm and leg, with the help of the Philisopher's Stone.

October 3rd is such an important date in Full Metal Alchemist lore since aside from the fact that Ed's pocket watch has the date engraved on its lid, it is the day when they finally decided to join the military as State Alchemists and to never look back to aim for their goal to bring their bodies back.

This date and decision was so pivotal because Ed have promised that they would never use alchemy ever again after the incident and this event would also bring them closer to their father, Hohenheim.

There you have it. The history of October 3rd and why it's being talked about by many in the cyberworld. Do you have more to add to this story? Drop your comment below!
