Maayong Pagbalik: UNIQLO Reopens in General Santos, Celebrating the Community's Strength and Resilience

As General Santos rebuilds and looks ahead, UNIQLO reopens its doors and strengthens its commitment to the people and communities it serves.

UNIQLO reopens its General Santos store with a renewed commitment to the community,  celebrating the strength and resilience of General Santos as it rebuilds and moves forward.

General Santos City, Philippines – Months after the June 2026 earthquake that impacted residents and businesses across General Santos City, UNIQLO is set to reopen its doors at SM City General Santos on October 15, marking not only the return of the store but also celebrating the resilience of a community determined to move forward.

In the aftermath of the earthquake, UNIQLO remained committed to supporting the General Santos community by opening a temporary pop-up store and working with ABS-CBN Foundation to provide LifeWear apparel, AIRism innerwear, hot meals, and financial assistance to affected families.

These efforts were strengthened by aid from Fast Retailing, UNIQLO's parent company, which donated JPY 30 million (approximately PHP 11.3 million) to SM Foundation and ABS-CBN Foundation. UNIQLO Philippines also mobilized PHP 1 million in emergency cash assistance, AIRism clothing, and RE.UNIQLO donations, helping support more than 7,000 individuals across affected communities.

"At UNIQLO, we believe that clothing has the power to support people through everyday life, especially during challenging times," said Geraldine Sia, Chief Operating Officer of UNIQLO Philippines. "The reopening of our General Santos store represents more than the return of a retail space. It reflects the resilience of the local community and our continued commitment to stand alongside our customers as they rebuild and move forward."

Investing in a More Hopeful Future

As General Santos City continues its recovery, UNIQLO is also reinforcing its long-term commitment to the community through education.

Coinciding with the store reopening is the completion of the very first classroom under UNIQLO's Supporting Brighter Futures Through Education initiative. Made possible through customer purchases of select AIRism products, the program supports the construction of learning spaces that help provide better access to education for underserved communities.

Built in partnership with HOPE Foundation, the new classroom at Bagong Silang High School in Barangay San Jose will help address the growing need for learning spaces in a school that primarily serves students from Indigenous communities.

Founded in 2017 with only 66 learners from the B'laan and Tboli tribes, Bagong Silang High School began without its own classrooms, often sharing facilities with a nearby elementary school or conducting classes in a semi-covered court vulnerable to heavy rains. Today, enrollment has grown to 164 learners from Grades 7 to 12, creating an urgent need for additional permanent learning spaces.

The newly completed classroom builds on the school's journey, providing students with a safer and more conducive space to learn and grow. UNIQLO will also donate 200 AIRism shirts to the school's students and teachers to support their everyday comfort in the tropical climate.
