Here are some practical energy-saving tips na pwede mong subukan (dahil natry ko na rin at medyo effective rin naman) to cut down your electricity bill:
Do chores manually ‘pag may time
Mas convenient talaga with technology and appliances, but it also demands more electricity consumption. Kung may time ka lang rin naman para gawin ang mga bagay manually, you’ll be able to save a lot on electricity.
You can try hand-washing your soiled clothes and hanging them dry instead of using a washing machine or dryer. At kapag nag-eexercise naman, try jogging outside instead of using a motorized treadmill.
Ditch your old appliances and Choose the ones with Inverter Technology
The next time you’re getting new appliances, try to choose the ones with inverter technology. You can save more, dahil mas energy-efficient na sila compared to old appliances.
LED bulbs are also known to be way more energy-saving than incandescent or fluorescent lights. Kung sa TVs naman, LED is so much better in energy consumption than CRT TVs (yung may malaking likod).
But be wary, kasi siyempre kung mas malaking LED TV, mas malaki rin ang gamit sa kuryente.
It also doesn't necessarily mean na you need to upgrade your appliances para lang makasave sa kuryente. Sometimes, a simple change in your habits ay nakakatulong na sa pagtitipid ng budget.
But more than these self-help tipid tips, mas malaking factor pa rin ang energy efficiency ng electricity service providers, para mapababa ang presyo ng kuryente.
Ang nagpapalaki sa electricity bill ay ang tinatawag na System loss that is billed sa ating mga consumers.
What is System Loss?
You may have heard this term before o baka nakita mo na rin ito sa iyong electricity bill. Technically, system loss refers to the difference between the total electricity supplied to a distribution system and the amount actually billed to consumers. It is composed of two types:
- Technical Losses – Power losses that naturally occur due to heat dissipation and inefficiencies in substations, transformers, and distribution lines.
- Non-Technical Losses – Losses caused by electricity theft, illegal connections, meter tampering, and billing irregularities.
I recently went to Iloilo with the Sox Bloggers Society at namention nga ng mga friends namin sa Iloilo Bloggers, Inc., na malaki ang naging upgrade ng bagong electricity service provider nila ngayon compared dati.
Iloilo’s current electricity provider, MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) provides a strong case study in effective system loss reduction.
We learned that within five years, system loss was reduced from approximately 30% to 4.5% — a dramatic improvement driven by capital investment, technical modernization, and disciplined management.
Also, we were able to have a tour sa More Power Iloilo facilities and offices, where we learned kung paano nila naachieve itong pagbabago na ‘to within 5 years.

During our tour sa MORE Power Control Center in Quezon St., Iloilo City Proper, we learned kung paano nila na-achieve ang system loss reduction:
Technical Interventions
Technical Interventions
MORE Power implemented substantial capital expenditures to rehabilitate and modernize aging and deteriorated infrastructure. Improvements included:
Non-Technical Interventions
- Upgrading substations
- Rehabilitating feeder lines
- Replacing old poles and distribution transformers
- Installing modern electric meters
Non-Technical Interventions
To address electricity theft and illegal connections, the company launched a massive anti-jumper campaign. Thousands of violators were apprehended, including barangay officials, business owners, and even a city councilor.
At the same time, the company adopted a more inclusive approach by assisting informal settlers in converting illegal connections into legal accounts. Requirements were reduced from 12 documents to 4, supported by an intensive house-to-house campaign.
As a result, the number of consumers increased from 62,000 to 102,000 within five years — broadening the customer base while reducing non-technical losses.
MORE Power is a sister company of Ignite Power proposing to partner with SOCOTECO II to improve the electricity service in SOCCSKSARGEN.
