DOH held “Barangay Date Night” for couples in Mindanao to promote family planning
Shortly after capping the Nutrition Month celebration in July, the Biyaheng Kalusugan caravan headed to Cotabato City on August 26, and Tubod, Lanao Del Norte on August 31. For its fourth leg, the festivities centered on Family Planning Month, as the Department of Health (DOH) stressed on the role and importance of proper planning for a healthy family.
With the campaign theme “Usap Tayo sa Family Planning para Protektado ang Pamilyang Pilipino”, participating couples spent some quality time during the Barangay Date Night which aimed to provide a safe space for tackling family planning. While enjoying a healthy dinner, they can listen in on conversations happening on-stage tackling different aspects of sexual and reproductive health. BARMM Darul-Ifta also provided insight on family planning through Islamic lens as discussed by Ustadz Mohammad Taib Pangca. After the dinner, couples were free to explore the installations and games tackling different family planning methods. Health educators in the event also did demos and facilitated one-on-one or group conversations to address concerns related to the topic.
Asec. Beverly Lorraine Ho thanked the Department’s partners in Mindanao for bringing family planning services closer to every Filipino family. Present during the event are representatives from the World Health Organization led by Dr. Rui Paulo De Jesus, USAID ReachHealth led by Ms. Radzini Oledan, and Mr. Neil Aldrin Omega, Ms. Ma. Fe Esmundo, and Ms. Farinah Nooh from the Commission on Population and Development Region 10 and Region 12 offices.
