Where to Get the Best Matcha Treats in Gensan

What is Matcha?

Matcha is basically Japanese Green Tea leaves ground into powder. It is made from the Camellia Sinensis plant, which is used in most teas that we know and drink.

Today, almost all drinks and desserts are available in Matcha flavor. Some dig it but most people, especially those who are not into green tea don't like the taste. It truly takes unique taste buds to appreciate Matcha but seeing mainstream food companies use the flavor, it just shows that Matcha also deserves some love. Here are my top Matcha picks and where you can score some in Gensan:

Henrich Matcha Latte

Aside from their signature sticky bibingka, Henrich also offers a choice of hot drinks. One of them is the creamy and yummy Matcha Latte that is great to be paired with their original sticky bibingka. It tastes like the usual warm matcha drink but it's really really affordable. You can get it hot and fresh in their Gaisano branch.

Chatime Matcha Drinks

Chatime offers not just one but 3 matcha drinks in its menu. If you enjoy the taste of milk tea, they have it in that variant. You may add pearls if you want an extra twist to your drink. Another one is the Matcha Red Bean Smoothie. Red bean goes really well with matcha and you may have it blended along with the base. The third one is the Matcha Tea Latte which is the best one in the bunch in my opinion. It's creamy and tasty without the sandy texture of the red beans.

J.Co Donuts and Coffee

Being one of the most sought after donut brands right now, J.Co Donuts and Coffee also offers Matcha-flavored donuts and drinks. They go with the matcha craze with 2 green tea donut flavors, Green Tease and Mr. Green Tea. Green Tease is topped with matcha and white chocolate with  fillings of whipped cream laced with matcha while Mr. Green Tea is a holed donut with matcha toppings and roasted California almonds drizzled on top.

In the drinks department, they offer Green Tea Frappe, which I think is not really that good because it lacks the creaminess and sweetness of the usual matcha flavor and it tastes a bit more of its tea counterpart.

McDonald's

Just recently, McDonald's added a new variant to its choices of sundae dips. Their new matcha McDip is bursting with candy-sweet flavor with the texture and smell of matcha. You may also choose to avail their Make-your-own-sundae menu since they use the same matcha syrup for both.

Dunkin' Donuts

Newly included in the list of mainstream brands that have embraced matcha is Dunkin' Donuts. Their newest offering is a warm cup of matcha latte which is similar to what's available in Henrich. It also smells great and tastes great, but doesn't take that much of your budget.

Starbucks Coffee

The very instagrammable Matcha Espresso Fusion from Starbucks Coffee was a limited edition matcha variant that came with Teavana, Starbucks' line of tea infused drinks. The drink is concocted with a matcha base, milk center and topped with espresso. You may enjoy it hot or iced.

Kaizu Japanese Restaurant

Matcha traces its origins in Japan, therefore, as a Japanese restaurant, Kaizu also offers the only matcha-flavored ice cream in the locality. If you enjoy matcha in its latte or frappe form, then you'll surely love it even more when its in an ice cream flavor. Beat the heat with this unique and exciting flavor and you'll find yourself imagining that you're in Japan.

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf

One of the best matcha offerings are definitely from The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. They have expertly crafted matcha beverages that are not too sweet but are flavorful and enjoyable to matcha lovers and casual tea drinkers alike. My favorite among their matcha drinks is the Matcha Green Tea Latte which is really good when you substitute soy milk for milk. You may also enjoy it ice blended or over ice.
